History
- 1982 Gary & Mona Moen start Moen Glass in corner of customer's factory. Predominantly hack out work. Their 2 children just left primary school.
- 1985 Move to bigger factory in Boronia. First employees. Maintenance contract for repair work (hack outs) in primary and secondary schools. Servicing a couple of timber joineries also.
- 1988 Times are booming. Move to bigger factory in Montrose, Melbourne. Eldest son Vidar Moen leaves high school for University, ensuring not to get involved in family glass company. 15 employees.
- 1990 Gary purchases state of the art double glazing line. Industry convinced he has gone mad. Start producing dual seal high quality units mid 1991.
- Son starts to spend spare time talking to potential customers.
- 1993 Market crashes. All but three employees left. Decision to specialize in double glazing. Eldest son, Vidar, now taking keen interest in manufacturing direction taken by company. No more maintenance contract. No more glazing for joineries. Much to Gary's dismay.
- Eldest son gets sick of spelling name to customers (and staff) and changes it to Vic Moen. Aggressive direction taken in being leading supplier of double glazed units
to residential market. Continued success with landmark commercial projects. - 1996 Add to double glazing line a robotic secondary sealer and auto flat press. Extend factory to accommodate. Computerise admin and production planning.
- 1997 Gary and Mona sail into the sunset (literally) and leave Vic to guide direction of company. The focus on highest quality manufacturing is cemented.
- 1999 Purchase automatic glass cutting and automatic spacer bending robot. State of the art. Undisputed market leader in Australia for all insulated glass products.
Employ 15 people again. - 2000 Purchase brand new, toughening furnace. Extend existing factory to accommodate. With same site toughening and double glazing capabilities, untouchable market leadership in quality and service of those products.
- 2001 Purchase new edgeworking, drilling, pre processing equipment to support toughening function. Employ between 30 and 40 people. Vic is proud to manage arguably the most progressive glass company in Australia displaying real market leadership in manufacturing of toughened safety glass and insulating glass units.
- 2002 Purchase second double glazing plant and house in separate facility in Bayswater, Melbourne. Extra Automatic cutting facility with huge warehousing space helps to ensure unrivalled delivery service of even the most complicated glass products.
- 2003 New facility opening in Mitchell, ACT. First and only toughening facility in Canberra. Also, automatic cutting facility and highly automated double glazing line to make the site complete.
